I took this panorama on Mont Blanc in the French Alps. There is an impressive cable car that takes you from the town of Chamonix Mont Blanc to Aiguille du Midi (12,602 feet or 3,842 meters), a peak partway up the mountain. The cable car holds the world record for most elevation gained: around 9,200 feet of elevation gain in the 20 minute ride to the top. This photo only shows a tiny fraction of the Alps (French, Italian, and Swiss) that can be seen from the top of the tram. Specifically, the peak on the left is Grandes Jorasses, and the one on the very right is Dent du Geant. Both these peaks lie on the French-Italian border. |
