An old car rusting away in the middle of Bodie, CA. This gold mining ghost town (now a state historic park) is an interesting place to visit just north of Mono Lake and Lee Vining in central CA. Within one year (1878) this town grew from 20 to 10,000 miners, gamblers, and other entrepreneurs searching for wealth. Years later it was quickly abandoned, leaving behind a well-preserved town. |

A friend pointed me to Bodie in 1960 when I was in Alaska. My first stop there was driving back from Anchorage through Seattle to Reno and then to Orange County in 1962. Long way from nowhere but a nice photo-op. About the same time you were traipsing around Zion, I was trapsing around the N. Rim and on up to Cedar Breaks. http://www.adoramapix.com/dbutch/book/photo-tour-2009-copy-2
