This is the portal, or sea arch rock at Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, CA (Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park). I took this photo right after the sun dipped below the horizon, leaving behind a yellow-orange glow. At high tide like this it's fun watching the waves funnel through the opening in the rock. To get this photo, I raced down the windy road to Pfeiffer Beach and then dashed like a madman from my car down the path and across the beach a ways to this spot carrying my tripod and camera backpack. There were some couples on the beach leaving as I arrived, and I think they were a bit bewildered to see me zoom by and throw down my tripod. I had hoped to make it here before the sun actually set, but I'm happy I still was able to get a good shot. You can buy this photo here, with many options including standard prints, canvas gallery wraps, gift cards, mugs, T-shirts and much more. |

Wow, love the colors! It's dreamy... Think how cool it'd be to be climbing on the rocks above the arch there!
